The Kite Runner

Hi this is Leslie, obviously. One of the main themes that ran through Kite Runner was the consequences of doing/or not doing what you believe is right. So often in society people know what they should do but do something else instead. Granted doing what is right often is not the easy way out of a situation, however it does make it possible to live in peace with yourself. In The Kite Runner, Baba and Amir in particular were prone to this type of thinking which I feel leads to many of their problems. In fact it really leaves Amir impotent to act at all in many situations. He has good thoughts about what he should do, but never follows through. Afterwards he spends incredible amounts of energy feeling guilty about what he didn't do. Hassan and Rahim Khan are foils to Amir and Baba is this respect as they stay true to themselves as they stand up for their decisions, regardless of the consequences to themselves. Because of being true to themselves they are able to overcome the effects of violence/trauma/death that they face in their lives. That's my thought about it anyway. On a lighter note I include the following picture of Kite Flyers, if not exactly runners from my days in China.
